Oil quenching and tempering is a hardening treatment by oil quenching followed by one or more temperings in order to obtain the required mechanical properties. Specifically this heat treatment is carried out in order to bring the steel to the required hardness.
Oil quenching and tempering process can be applied to all types of tool steel, constructional steel, low alloy steel and alloyed steels, whose quenchability is compatible with oil quenching. Mainly the process can be applied to all steel products for cold work, tooling and mechanical applications in general.
